OK, so my main site was created in a hurry on a day I needed a showcase for my numerous skills ;). Over time, only the Making Music section has been updated somewhat regularly.
On more than one occasion however, I have felt the urge to post tidbits, rants, and such, but it was just too much of a bother to do. By the time I would have coded the pages, the need to vent would have been long gone.
Since then, I’ve started using RSS readers, and have discovered that some of the stuff I was reading were in fact weblogs (which I had dismissed as overhyped). So I decided to take a closer look, and found just what I had been looking for: A super-easy, convenient way (in theory at least) to post stuff on a whim, and have all the plumbing taken care of by the weblogging system (the way it should be!)
I explored a few different systems (I’ll get into that at another time), settled on this one, imported all of the stuff from the What’s New section of my showcase site, and now have the makings of a weblog.
I am now faced with several possibilities:
- Actually making the weblog accessible to the general public (done if you are reading this).
- Dumping my showcase site in favor of a weblog (too soon to decide, although I suspect the showcase site with the simple, clear tree structure is easier to grasp initially, at least for the non-nerd public).
- Alterntively, somehow blending the two sites, or making them seem as part of a logical whole.
We shall see how this plays out.
