I’ve blogged about Internet Explorer for Windows hell recently.
I even stirred things up a little on a Macintouch forum on « Mac Marginalization » on the web, regarding sites that only work on IE Win and shut out the Mac, where most posters argued that you should stick with web standards, and everything will be fine. I argued that while respecting web standards is a good thing, chances are your site will not work on IE Win without a considerable amount of extra work. While this annoyed some posters, others posted incredibly useful links that help make things smoother.
For some reason, this prompted me to revisit sknoblog, because as I’ve mentioned before, in IE Win, the sidebar on the right floats to the bottom of the page. Worse, I realized that Flash content wasn’t showing up either (notably mini Radio Vince). So I spent some time fixing things yesterday. If you are reckless enough to be using IE Win, you should now see the sidebar where it is supposed to be, as well as mini Radio Vince. It turns out that I had to resort to a WordPress plugin to display Flash content (Kimili Flash Embed), which unfortunately creates visual flashing artifacts on the Mac Safari browser when mini Radio Vince loads or when you scroll the page. Argh!
While I was at it, I added a feature that I’ve wanted for a long time. I added « sticky posts », which allows me to keep an article at the top of the page, even when I post new ones (I used the Adhesive plugin). This compensates a little for some of the many shortcomings of the chronological-ephemeral blog approach. So hopefully, if you’re not using a newsreading application and reading sknoblog in a browser, you will actually notice this incredibly compelling post!
