I posted Dinosaur on GarageBand.com.
For those who don’t know, to upload a song to GB, you first have to review 30 songs. Your song is then reviewed by others.
The review process is blind and anonymous (you don’t know what you’re reviewing until your done). Reviews themselves are rated to encourage reviewers to be thoughtful and constructive.
After your song gets 20 reviews, if it is in the top 20% of it’s genre, then it is carried over to a second round of reviews. That’s it, you don’t win anything.
The system is well thought out, and the site has a fun, irreverent tone. I’ve listened to a lot of crap, but have also lucked onto a few really nice songs. My stuff has gotten rave reviews or hate reviews, and pretty much nothing in between.
Unfortunately, a lot of reviewers seem to think that the absence of commercial potential is an inherent flaw and therefore purposely choose to penalize originality. Still, at least you get something by posting to GB as opposed to other sites.
And it sure is nice to wake up to a good review.
